What colors, which brushes....Use not only differing size brushes, use different shapes to make
your painting more visually stimulating. It does make a difference.
Now it's time to lay in some colors. You are blocking out the overall composition. This is the time to figure out how to balance the scene while maintaining the center of interest.

Add some shading and build up depth in
colors. Keep adding color
Be careful not to have too much color going on the the background Objects in the background don't share the color intensity of those in the foreground. You will need to work on them again as the painting progresses.
Refine areas that are blocked in
NOW is the time to set your piece aside; clean the brushes, and set the paint in an area where it can be recovered without guessing "Is this what I was using?"
Put the painting where you will see it several times daily. When you look at it, invert it. Check your verticals and horizontals - see that they are true. Keep looking at your painting.
In two days, it will be time for you to finish it.
