Gilding the Beak

This whole transformation hasn't been all that interesting for you guys, apparently.  Readership has been falling off.
This is an important project for me and for developing skills, so bear with it.

The Eagle began like this:

Then his feet and wings got some color:

His stripes appeared:

The beak glistens, as does the pedestal:

So appreciate it already!!

Getting Ready for the Parade

Yesterday, after gluey picture frames, a sticky worktable, and massive frustration, copper leafing
seemed to finally work.  I have a very fancy copper-striped pencil holder,
two ragged frames, a big shiny rectangle on the bottom of the felting supply
case, and the will to move on.

The base "back" is my first effort.

Painting progress.

The concrete floor is too cold.  So, as you can see,
he is raised up on sawhorses and narrowly
misses the control box.

More to come - the gold leaf starts soon.

And Still, the Eagle

The Seacoast Chapter of Veterans Count is doing good work for our people.  I am trying to do good work for the ones protecting all of us - it is an honor.

Progress

The eagle beginning...

I saw a few rough spots, some small holes, and some pinholes.

Then there was the body putty to smooth over after it dried.

I began painting the rock base and the feathers on the legs.

Start gilding the feet.......

The Parade of Eagles Has Begun

Finally, the big bird is here.
The crew and I went to Dover, NH yesterday, to guide it to its temporary home.

Brought it inside.
The entire dining room, hall, and studio had been rearranged to make room.
Moved it to the studio.
The door is 8 inches too narrow.

Turn it, angle it.
Doesn't matter.

It's in the alternate studio, guarding my kayak.

Here it is...my beauty...

My Friends Showed Up

I have learned many important things as time has gone by:
                 Your friends get older
                  Your friends sell their trucks
Your friends don't want to lift heavy things.

Thank God for these two friends (Roger and Nouche):

A truck and willingness to lift heavy objects - the Eagle.

More to come

I'll Be Around

Your wandering art blogger has returned - with news of where my art will actually be displayed during this spring and summer:
In June, look for a dozen of my paintings in Londonderry Leach Library.

In July, look for my work in the Derry Public Library.

In July and August, the first group in a rotating series "Retrospectively Mine" will appear
in the Provident Bank in Seabrook, NH.
